The monks of Douai have offered prayer, hospitality and service for over four hundred years. That work — the daily liturgy, the open guesthouse, the parish ministry — depends not only on the commitment of the community but on the generosity of those who share in its mission.

SSEDA — the Society of St Edmund at Douai Abbey — is our friends organisation, a community of supporters who choose to give regularly and so bind themselves more closely to the life and mission of the monastery.
Members of SSEDA share in the prayers of the community and become part of the wider Douai family. Their annual giving sustains the work of the monks in a practical and lasting way — making possible the hospitality, the liturgy and the outreach that have always defined this place.

Named in honour of St Martha, whose hospitality to Jesus was unstinting, the Martha Fund subsidises students and young people on low incomes who would like to stay at Douai but are unable to pay the full rate.
Helping these young people to cover their costs helps the monks as well. More importantly, it means no young person need feel unable to come to Douai, and can share in the peace and spiritual life of the abbey — something that will enrich the entire Douai family.
