Ordinands, charging points et al

Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
2 July 2021
» On Saturday 26 June Fr Oliver was at Westminster Cathedral to attend the priestly ordination of four deacons from Allen Hall who had made their retreat at Douai in the previous week. Recently we have also welcomed six deacon ordinands from Allen Hall  who either have been, or will be, ordained this summer. A second group of candidates preparing for ordination to the permanent diaconate also came to Douai for their retreat. This was led by Archbishop Emeritus Kevin McDonald who was rather surprised when another guest (David Hammond, an Old Dowegian), on discovering that he was a bishop, asked him if he could only move diagonally!

» A charging point for our new electric car has now been installed near the monastic car park, and we have also taken the opportunity to install a second charging point for the use of guests who will surely be arriving in their electric cars before too long.

» Fr Abbot has been visiting Ampleforth Abbey this week for a follow-up meeting after the Visitation of that community earlier this year.

» A Requiem Mass for Fr Louis and Fr Bernard, who both died in the early stages of the first lockdown last year, had been planned for Tuesday, 6 July but this has been postponed to Friday, 3 September at 11.00 am. Please contact Fr Oliver if you would like to attend.
