Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
27 February 2022
» A number of small groups of brethren met at Douai during this past week. as part of our ongoing discernment leading up to the abbatial election in May.

» The annual conventual chapter was held on 24 February at which the customary election of the community's abbatial councillors was held and the accounts of the two trusts, the Douai Abbey Trust and the Douai Abbey Parishes’ Trust, were inspected and discussed. Almost all the community in solemn vows attended in person, with two of the brethren present by Zoom.

» The same day, Sr Catherine Wybourne OSB died after a long and heroic fight against cancer. She was the last printer at the Stanbrook Abbey Press and came to Douai for a short time, with three other nuns, before they moved to East Hendred.

» On 25 February, the son of Dr Michael Blee visited Douai to deposit architectural drawings of his father, Dr Michael Blee designed the extension to the abbey church.

» Each day during Lent Br Christopher will walk 5Km to raise money for Cafod's ’Walk Against Hunger’. Many of the monks will also take part, including Frs Gabriel, Benjamin, and Gervase. Every Saturday 2pm during Lent, starting from the abbey church, there will be Walking with Monks, involving parishioners, oblates and visitors. All are welcome to join them for all or part of the way as often as you would like.
