Cambridge vespers et al
» On 25 May Fr Abbot joined his old friend Fr John Dickson SDB in Chertsey to celebrate the latter's 40th anniversary of ordination.
» Last week a goodly number of men from various dioceses who are training to be permanent deacons were on retreat at Douai.
» On 30 May the Douai Abbey Parishes' Trust met at Kemerton. The meeting was after lunch, unusually, so that the trustees had time to offer Mass for the Ascension in their parishes.
» Last Sunday, 2 June, a number of monks sang vespers in the chapel of Magdalene College, Cambridge, a biennial event which is becoming something of a tradition. After the vespers, the College Fellows and chaplain hosted the brethren to dinner and offered many of them accommodation in college for the night. Magdalene is a medieval Benedictine foundation. From the monastery were the abbot and Fr Oliver, joined by Frs Godric and Hugh who came down from Lancashire. Joining our brethren were Br Jarek from Glenstal but studying in Oxford, and Fr Oswald of St Benet's, Oxford. The Catholic chaplain of the university, Fr Mark Langham, also sang with the monastic choir, as did Brs John and Daniel OP, from Blackfriars (the latter having been an abbey parishioner before joining the Dominicans).
» That same weekend a group from Across, which organises retreats to Lourdes for the handicapped, was staying at Douai.
