Hello Fr Wilfred It has
been about 12 yrs ago when we returned for a visit to see the comunity there. I
do not know if you remember me I was employed there as clerk of works and
maintinace in the late 70's. We are looking at returning back to the U.K. and it
would be nice to here from you as I would imagine a lot of changes have taken
place over the years. Regards from all here in South Africa

This takes me back half a century and just a little more. I was a pupil
between, what, '54 and '59 (or thereabouts?), indeed an "ex-pat" student whose
parents resided in what was then called Ceylon, now Sri Lanka. The only one of
my peers that I can readily remember was "Strickland", also an ex-pat, from
Malta. He was the fly half of our hugely successful rugger team at the end of my
time. It's sad that the school is no more, but let's move on from that. Next
time I'm in the UK, as I did in '73 with my mother, I'll certainly pay a visit.
Perhaps I should also point out that, although I have a huge amount of
sentimental time for Douai, and all it stands for, today, indeed for a great
many years, I am a confirmed atheist. Cheers, Christian PS One of my abiding
loves was the "Black Walk" which bounded the major cricket pitches as well as,
where you turned into it, the tennis courts. It was also the start of the "cross
country" run, short as well as long. I guess it's no more?

your website. Was a pupil from 1949 (Ditcham) to 1959 (Douai) and have many fond
memories. Sorry about the demise of the school but good to know the Abbey is
still going strong. Now retired and living in Scotland near Helensburgh; Father
Oliver has my new address. Best wishes to you all for Christmas and the new
year. Regards,Peter Eastwood.

I discovered your website
tonight. It is a wonderful gift this Christmas. I will come back to it often. It
is a great resource for me. I am currently at the end of my probationary period
to become a Camaldolese, Benedictine oblate. I live in San Francisco,
California. The Camaldolese have the Monastery of the Incarnation in Berkeley
and the New Camaldoli Hermitage in the Big Sur. Peace and joy to all this
Christmas. La paz este con tigo. michael

Douai has been put to good use, after the regrettably closure of the school,
where I spent many happy memories. I look forward to visiting once again…

dear Fathers I like
your site - I might come on the Marian retreat in October - I could fly into
Gatwick it would be convenient. I picked scholastica for my email address
because one of my brothers was born on the feast of St Scholastica. I was
present in Lourdes in July 2000 when an English Benedictine celebrated Mass at
the grotto for I think something like 60 years a priest - it was a marvellous
occasion. Best wishes Maureen.

I'm pleased to sign the book.
I am an Oblate of Douai Abbey and was 'received' early this year, at a service
at Cromer, North Norfolk. We enjoy a monthly Fellowship and time of instruction
from Father Ron. Can you tell me more about the first Methodist Monk of whom I
recently read an article. I was surprised to know that she is a lady and thought
all monks were men. I am a methodist, hence my query. Blessings and peace.

Thank you so much for a wonderful tour through the gardens and grounds
of the Abbey. I do like your web site very much. As a healing garden designer
and builder of labyrinths I found this a lovely visit. I shall be visiting
Glastonbury in May and hope to visit some healing/sacred or therapuetic gardens
in the South/West. Any suggestions? Thank you so much, Pamela White

Hi there!! I'm from São
Paulo, Brasil, and since I was reading an article on a magazine talking about
"keep the soul in the worplace" I went to internet visiting this site. The
history of Douai Abbey is really amazing but I was thinking about the tendency
of this kind of comunity finish when the years pass. Don't you think the
objective described as function of the comunity is a little empty (sorry), don't
you think your objectives should be more in terms of general charity and even
thinking on the world not just thinking on the history but in the real world.
Sorry for my "weak" english but as you probably don't know we speak portuguese
here in Brasil. Have a nice day!!!

Wow! What a great,
user-friendly, beautifully designed web site! Congrats! WE heard about you on
Open Country this last Saturday morning. We've lived in Berkshire for two years
now, but as with so many things, never knew of the Abbey's existence so close at
hand. We hope to come hear Vespers, or something like it, before we return to
the US in August.

b&b in Midgham and photographing the outside. John
