DOUAI ABBEY
The Calefactory

THE MONASTERY

The monastery was designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd and was opened in 1966. A total plan was commissioned of which the first two stages were built, comprising south and east cloisters, two main living blocks, the bursary, and the calefactory (picture right). Planned, but not yet built were the north and west cloisters, the library, lecture rooms, chapter room/auditorium, refectory, guest house and infirmary.
