The first Oblates Day. In addition to those on retreat a number of other oblates came for the day. We gathered in Cottage garden, where several of the monastic community joined us for a picnic lunch and tea. After Midday Prayer in the Abbey Church all oblates present renewed their oblation. The Abbot Primate, Notker Wolf, spoke to those oblates who were able to be present in a session before the Conventual Mass. In his talk Abbot Notker spoke about the growth of the oblate movement world wide, and invited Douai oblates to take part in the International Oblates Congress being planned to be held in Rome in 2005. An oblate chapter has been established in Alcester and Studley, Warwickshire. A meeting was held in the presbytery at Alcester from after 10am Mass. At the end of the day, before Evening Prayer, four oblate novices were enrolled by Fr Gervase: Anna Charles, Dick Donnison, Peter Lawrence Griffiths and Pamela Young.
