Midsummer Update
» In Washington DC, on 15 June, Fr Abbot presided over the scheduled abbatial election at St Anselm's Abbey (below). Abbot James Wiseman was re-elected to serve a third term.
» In the monastery library an exhibition opened to mark the quatercentenary of the English Carmelite nuns of Antwerp. Many of their rare books, archives and other artifacts are in the Douai archives. Steve Roach, currently on our Alongsider programme, helped with the setting up of the exhibition. It will be on display for a year.
» At our parish of Alcester Fr Abbot was welcomed by Fr Paul to confer Confirmation on 9 young people.
» After a long period of illness Fr Richard Finn OP resumed regular research visits to the Dominican archives housed at Douai. We were glad to welcome him back, and his assistant Br Albert.
» On 21 June a group of students from St Stephen's House, Oxford, visited the monastery for a day of recollection, which included a tour of the library.
» The next day Fr Abbot celebrated Mass at St Luke's. Theale to mark the golden anniversary of the church's opening. The Mass was followed by a well-attended BBQ in glorious sunshine.
» The same day, at Liverpool's cathedral, Fr Godric was inducted by Cardinal Edwin O'Brien as a chaplain to the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, for which occasion he was joined by many of his family.
