» Fr Abbot and Fr Oliver began the visitation of Worth Abbey on 24 January, attending remotely via Zoom due to the pandemic restrictions.
» The abbot’s council and abbey trustees, with their advisors, met on Thursday, 28 January. They were joined by Kate Burke, the community’s Safeguarding Officer.
» Fr Alban’s father, Don Hood, has published his autobiography, with a lot of the editing done by Fr Alban.
» On Friday, 29 January, the abbot attended a committee meeting of the Douai Foundation, run by Old Dowegians, which helps to support Benedictine educational projects around the world. The Foundation hopes to organise a gala dinner at the Savoy in London on 1 October at which Richard Ingrams, former editor of Private Eye and a Douai parishioner, has agreed to speak. Naturally, it is all Covid-permitting!
» Fr Peter conducted the funeral and burial at Pangbourne of John Campbell, who taught French and Spanish in Douai's school from 1962 until 1986. May he rest in peace.
» The America-based independent safeguarding consultancy Praesidium has inspected and accredited the safeguarding policy and procedures at Douai Abbey, and issued the monastery with am award and certificate of accreditation. This does not mean that Douai can now rest on its laurels, but that the safeguarding culture and procedures at Douai have been independently verified as meeting the standrards of best practice.
