Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr
Published by HSK in News · 9 November 2018
» In mid-October there was a tragic crash on the M4 not far from Douai involving a minibus carrying staff and children from Priors Court School, a school for children with very special needs of which Fr Oliver is a trustee. Three staff members were killed, and three more received critical injuries. Last Monday Fr Benjamin conducted a funeral at Douai for one of the staff members. On 11 December there will be a memorial service for all three staff members in the abbey church. Please keep all affected in your prayers.

» On Sunday 28 October a small reception was held after Mass to celebrate our music director, Dr John Rowntree's being made an Associate of the Royal School of Church Music. The community extends its hearty congratulations to him.

» The week prior to this Frs Peter, Oliver and Hugh were at Buckfast Abbey for an EBC conference centred on ongoing formation and the future of the congregation. On the Friday Fr Abbot joined them for the last day of work. The next day the fathers joined a large number of guest for a monastic celebration of the millenium since the chartering of the first monastery on Buckfast's site.
