Douai Abbey: The Monastery of St Edmund, King & Martyr

» Last Friday we concluded a successful annual retreat, ably led by Fr Philip Endean SJ, who interpreted the Rule of St Benedict in the light of certain passages from the writing of St Ignatius and the Jesuit constituions.

» The end of the retreat led as always into the start of a new term. Already monks are scattered hither and thither. Yesterday Fr Abbot for Rome, where for the next two weeks he will be attending the quadriennial Benedictine abbots' congress. This congress a new abbot primate will be elected by the assembled abbots. He will find time to visit Fr Edmund while in Rome.

» Today Fr Alban heads overseas for a family wedding, and Fr Hugh heads to Bristol to submit his MPhil thesis.
